The Frequencies:

Richard Montgomery High School security and administration operates on 464.375 MHz (portables only) on the campus of the school (250 Richard Montgomery Drive), as well as the immediate vicinity of the campus.  464.375 MHz is the primary channel (channel 1), however there is a second channel (464.55 MHz).  464.375 MHz is also apparently a maintenance frequency for White Flint Mall and can regularly be heard in the vicinity of RMHS.  464.55 MHz is the building services channel and serves as an alternate to channel 1.    These two frequencies are apparently used by all MCPS high schools and possibly all secondary schools.  The school system's radios are not licensed with the FCC, and it appears that White Flint Mall's use of this frequency is not licensed either.

Many types of radios are in use on the RMHS campus.  The newest are Motorola Radius SP50's, which are used exclusively by security and building services staff (complete with external speaker/microphones) and the principal (minus the external mic).  A few Motorola Radius P110's are also used by building/supporting services staff and security.  Administrators use Motorola Spirit radios.  These three types are the primary radios used; it is possible a few older radios are still in use.
